Here's the part where I get to talk about my guitar Marilyn. I named my guitar after the beautiful, late, great actress Marilyn Monroe who I adore. The reason I named my guitar Marilyn is quite simple; she's blonde and curvy.
The similarities unfortunately run deeper than just physical traits. Like the late great actress my Marilyn comes with flaws. For my own reasons I will, for now, omit the guitar makers name.
I have had Marilyn for about 16 months now and I can definitely say I am getting to know her real well. Like with anything new that you embrace for the first time there is a learning curve. I know I'm still behind that curve, but it definitely is a labor of love (bordering passion) as I hold her and attempt to create music with her. Trying to make this intoxicating creation almost a part of me like an extension of my limb is where I currently find myself.
As I am learning and growing with my guitar that I bought brand new I am learning the details and nuances that make up Marilyn's character. Unfortunately some of those items come in the form checking and cracks! The checking I've noticed seems to be running up and down the neck of my guitar. I've taken her back for a check up to the store where I purchased her at and there seems to be no concerns other than cosmetics. There is also a crack in the binding just below where the neck and the body are joined.
I really don't mind that I want her to have character, but I just hope other than that she's solid and sound. I'll try to post pics in the next few days to help paint a clearer picture. Rock on all...
