Marilyn and Me...

Here's the part where I get to talk about my guitar Marilyn. I named my guitar after the beautiful, late, great actress Marilyn Monroe who I adore. The reason I named my guitar Marilyn is quite simple; she's blonde and curvy.

The similarities unfortunately run deeper than just physical traits. Like the late great actress my Marilyn comes with flaws. For my own reasons I will, for now, omit the guitar makers name.

I have had Marilyn for about 16 months now and I can definitely say I am getting to know her real well. Like with anything new that you embrace for the first time there is a learning curve. I know I'm still behind that curve, but it definitely is a labor of love (bordering passion) as I hold her and attempt to create music with her. Trying to make this intoxicating creation almost a part of me like an extension of my limb is where I currently find myself.

As I am learning and growing with my guitar that I bought brand new I am learning the details and nuances that make up Marilyn's character. Unfortunately some of those items come in the form checking and cracks! The checking I've noticed seems to be running up and down the neck of my guitar. I've taken her back for a check up to the store where I purchased her at and there seems to be no concerns other than cosmetics. There is also a crack in the binding just below where the neck and the body are joined.

I really don't mind that I want her to have character, but I just hope other than that she's solid and sound. I'll try to post pics in the next few days to help paint a clearer picture. Rock on all...

Guitars/Baseball/Cycling

Got some good time with my guitar on my day off. Today my son has a baseball game, hope he does well. This coming weekend my wife and oldest son will be taking part in the "Race for the Cure" cycling event in the fight against diabetes.

Guitarwise, I'm at the point where I am getting very comfortable playing my guitar unplugged...hopefully in the near future I'll be able to commit more to it than just running practice scales.

Remind me to tell you about some finishing flaws I'm noticing on my guitar neck!

The off season begins...

Boy it's been hectic weekend. Went to Garner State Park for Mother's Day and my wife's birthday, went cold turkey without my guitar and me beloved Spurs (thankfully I had a lot beer to quell any fits of withdrawl symptoms).

But alas the season is over for my Spurs and now is the time for healing.

On a different note, i got some guitar time to re-aquaint myself with my Marilyn (guitar). I've had her over a year now andit definitely is a pleasure getting to know all about her (view personal photo).

A time for lamenting...

Yes, my Spurs lost. This is where being a true fan comes into play. We'll see what the next two games at home brings us.

The...guitar

Where do I begin? It's true when I said I am a student of the guitar, i meant it.
i love my guitar, it's definitely brought me a lot of joy. I was needing an outlet, but one didn't exist. And then it came to me in a dream. Guitar.
When I was about sixteen I got my first guitar, it was an Arbor, Gibson style Explorer; boy did I love that guitar! I would spend hours at home alone with it, learning about how it works, the nuances, the different levels of pressure to apply, customizing alternative methods of strap options, discovering...seduction. But then a horrible sequence of events occurred.

GO SPURS GO

This is another area in which I am a journeyman...

My beloved Spurs will be taking on the Suns in game two of the second round series of the NBA Playoffs. Currently my Spurs are 0-1 in the series. We'll see if they can repeat the same outcome as they did in the first round against the Mavs.

Get your popcorn ready...

Blogging, the saga continues...

Hello World,

This will be my attempt to share with you my thoughts and personal points in my life as I go forth in this crazy world as a family man, a contributor to society, and a student of the guitar (of the highest order). Wish me luck...
